On this day, 78 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed and issued Executive Order 9066 declaring parts of the United States military zones. The executive order quickly paved the way for the United States government to unlawfully incarcerate 112,000 Japanese American men, women, and children in concentration camps in some of the most desolate places in the country.

Japanese Americans were victims of prejudice for decades and Executive Order 9066 worked to fan the flames of discrimination. Please take a moment today to remember those who were incarcerated. Maybe strike up a water cooler conversation today with someone who knows nothing about this part of history. I sound like a broken record, but history is repeating itself and I think it's worth discussing.
