Terry Higa would have been 95 years old today if she were alive. Thank you Amy Higa-Sayama for the reminder. Terry was interned at Heart Mountain at the age of 18. I can never imagine the trauma that the internment created for all those affected, but Terry and her family endured and survived. I can only imagine how different this story would be if Terry were alive to tell it in her own words. Happy birthday dear girl and wherever you are, a million thanks for your story and for the care and kindness you provided to my family.

Tomorrow is the birthday of Terry's younger brother Shigeo. If he had lived, he would be 90 years old tomorrow. Shigeo, I regard your daughter Amy as a dear friend, even though we have yet to meet in person. She is lovely and so knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history. You have much to be proud of. Happy birthday o'l bean (as my British friend would say), and a million thanks to you as well.

I can't believe it's been a year since I posted the last blog about Terry and her brother Shigeo. Today would have been Terry's 96th...
